Long Range Planning Committee Proposal - High School Boundary Changes for 2004-05

Public Comments and Questions Bulletin Board

E-mail comments may be addressed to: HS_Boundaries@roundrockisd.org

During their meeting on September 16, members of the Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees discussed possible high school attendance zone changes to better balance student enrollment and more effectively utilize facilities at several campuses. Four proposals for possible high school boundary adjustments were presented to the board:

1) Move high school students in the Berkman Elementary and Voigt Elementary attendance zones from Stony Point High School (SPHS) to Round Rock High School (RRHS), which would affect an estimated 510 students (excluding seniors);

2) Move students in the Stone Oak and Mayfield Ranch subdivisions and Voigt Elementary attendance zone from SPHS to RRHS, affecting an estimated 386 students (excluding seniors);

3) Move students in Stone Oak and Mayfield Ranch and Berkman Elementary attendance zone from SPHS to RRHS, affecting an estimated 188 students (excluding seniors); and

4) Move students in the Wells Branch Elementary attendance zone who now attend McNeil High School (some in the Wells Branch attendance zone currently attend RRHS) and students in the Voigt Elementary attendance zone to RRHS, affecting an estimated 499 students (excluding seniors).

The Board of Trustees Long-Range Planning Committee will conduct public hearings to provide information and solicit input regarding these proposals. The following hearings are scheduled:

Tuesday, September 30: McNeil High School Cafeteria (5720 McNeil Rd.), 7 p.m.

Tuesday, October 7: Stony Point High School Cafeteria (1801 Bowman Rd.), 7 p.m.

Thursday, October 9: Round Rock High School Cafeteria (300 Lake Creek Dr.), 7 p.m.

All are invited to attend any or all of the meetings--the information presented at each will be the same. The Long-Range Planning Committee will share input from the hearings during the RRISD Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, October 16, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Round Rock City Council Chambers. As always, public comments also are invited at board meetings.

No action will be taken by the school board before November 20. If boundary changes are approved, they will take effect for the 2004-05 school year for high school students only. Students scheduled to graduate in 2005 would be allowed to remain at their current campus if they choose. Additional information about the proposed changes, including maps of the areas that could be affected, may be found on the district’s web site at www.roundrockisd.org/transportation.

A letter from Superintendent Tom Gaul containing this information will be sent home with students this week to students in the high school feeder pattens that could be affected by these proposed changes. Information is also being sent to the news media. We appreciate any help you can provide in notifying the community about these proposals and the public hearings. Thank you!
