v-Soft System implemented in 2007

Greetings Stony Point Parents! Did you know that Stony Point High School has a Parent Support Specialist on staff? Yes, that's me! My name is Stela Holcombe and my office is located in the "PRO Center" on your campus. I serve both the 9th Grade Campus and the main SPHS campus and I'm just a phone call or email message away. If you have a question or concern and don't know where to start or who to contact, contact me and I will be happy to assist and/or refer you in the right direction. To reach me, call my office phone at 428-7033 (messages checked Tuesdays and Thursdays), or email me for a faster response. Of course, I also welcome a visit from you in person. Call me and we can set up a meeting time. Not only do I want to hear from you if you are interested in parent volunteer opportunities ... I also would like to know what can WE do for YOU? In other words, what special programs, workshops, and/or other services you would like to see offered at the Stony Point campuses for parents? I look forward to working with you!

FAFSA SATURDAY!

Dear Stony Point Parents,
(Note: Even if you are NOT the parent of a current SENIOR at SPHS, please read for your information and forward as appropriate. Thanks ... )
As many of you well know, one of the most important tasks our college bound seniors must accomplish is to have their family complete the FAFSA form -- the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA application is CRITICAL because it enables qualified students to receive Federal Pell Grants, State Grants, and government-issued student loans. Many colleges and universities also use FAFSA data to select students to recieve funds from their own financial aid coffers. In other words, in order for colleges to "SHOW YOU THE MONEY!" you have to "FILL OUT A FAFSA"!!!
I ask that you mark your family calendar NOW and help spread the word that Saturday, February 27th, is "FAFSA Saturday" in the Stony Point High School library. Volunteers will be here from 8:30 am-12:30 pm to help the families of SENIORS complete the FAFSA online. A bilingual volunteer will also be available to help our Spanish-speaking families. Information about what families will need to bring to this event is forthcoming.
Very recently, Stony Point High School was recognized as the RRISD high school that had the MOST attendees (89 families served) at this event in 2009! Our goal is to again be the high school with the most families that participate in this important and FREE event.
Thank you! Stela Holcombe

v-Soft System implemented in 2007
We would like to introduce you to a new system our school has acquired to help protect your children - it's called v-soft. V-soft helps track visitors, students, faculty, contractors and volunteers at our school, thus providing a safer more monitored environment for the students. When visitors, volunteers or contractors check-in, or parents come to pick up students, they will be asked to present a valid state issued ID for entering into the system. The system has the ability to provide alerts on people who may jeopardize the safety of the campus. We feel certain this will help us keep our campus a little safer, and ask
for your cooperation in presenting your valid, state-issued ID when checking in at the school. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.
