ATHLETIC INJURY PROCEDURE While participating in athletics can be fun and rewarding, participation sometimes produces injuries. School athletic injuries are initially treated "in-house"; however, it is sometimes necessary to request parents take their child to a doctor for an evaluation. The timeline to request parents to do this varies based on the injury and the severity assessed. The primary time for evaluations, treatments, and rehabs is before school. These services are also available during lunches and after school. Athletic classes are for those students or athletes with injuries requiring more extensive treatment and rehabilitation and when unable to participate in any manner. Whether an SPHS Athletic Trainer requests or the parents initiate a doctor's visit for any injury or illness, written communication from the doctor is required prior to returning to activity. The communication is to include diagnosis, activity level and any restrictions. The written communication will inform the Athletic Trainers and Athletic Staff of the care needed.
