·When a student is absent from school, what is the impact?
For the district it is $34.41 – a relatively small number until it is multiplied by the number of students absent on an average day (1,800) for a total loss in funding of $61,938 per day. With 175 instructional days in a school year, this totals to roughly $10.8 million in loss of funding due to student absenteeism.

During last year’s budget crunch, the community continually asked for ways to help provide more funding to the district. One very simple way, and one of extreme value to students, is to ensure that all students are in class every day possible. This will enable all students to receive the required instruction to reach success, while also helping the district to receive state funding (which is based on average daily attendance rates).

Under current funding formulas, a 1% increase in attendance would increase state funding by roughly $2.7 million. Check the District’s web site and subscribe to the District E-News to see periodic messages about the importance of daily attendance. Also, follow us on Twitter @Round Rock ISD.

Heath Walz, Teacher of the Year 2012-13
Congratulations Mr. Walz, Teacher of the Year 2012-2013!

Mr. Walz has been tireless in his efforts to teach, motivate and help the students of SPHS. Besides being an excellent teacher, he is a great motivator who can get students who think they have no chance to believe in themselves. Further, as the founder of the SPHS Just-In-Time program, he is succeeding in changing the attitudes of the students here. Mr. Walz has been tireless in getting students into the Just-In-Time program or the Credit Recovery program and then getting them to finish their courses. SPHS is blessed to have such a fine teacher as Mr. Heath Walz.

TAKS Online Course Available

TAKS Program - SPHS has a new program to help our students prepare for all four TAKS tests. This program provides the student with a pretest and uses the results to create a personalized "Learning Path" to help you learn the skills you need to pass TAKS. Lessons are interactive and provide immediate feedback on each skill during the lesson. Detailed explanations of correct answers are provided for each question in the lesson and for the quiz at the end of the lesson. After you complete your Learning Path, there are three full length practice tests for each subject.

Any student can access this program by clicking here and scroll down to the middle of that page and click on the Testing & Education Link. From there look in the middle column under High School tools for the TAKS link. That link will take you to the page with all of your TAKS practice tests and the online course.
