"The Purple Sage Riders Chess
Club began in October 2008, and has doubled in membership since that
time to over 50 active members. The club is equipped with U.S. Chess
Federation approved equipment, to include tournament clocks.
The club is sponsored by Mrs. Melissa Jacks, supported by community
members and parents, and led by elected student members. The club
meets weekly, learns chess notation, openings, and puzzles. The
hands down favorite is Skittles. Skittles is students playing
students just for the fun of it.
The Riders Chess Club members enjoy the solid support of the
principal's office, faculty and staff. Our students are the best,
getting better at this challenging, fun, and exciting game. There
are no losers in chess, only winners and learners. Student
applications are taken for 1-5th grades throughout the year, and may
be obtained through either Mrs. Jacks or Mr. John Morgan. We
strongly encourage parents to participate, particularly those who
have students in the 1-3 grades. We haven't had a kinder student yet
in the club, but if there is one out there that plays, they are
welcome!"

Chess Club meets every Thursday afternoon at 2:45-3:30 in the Purple Sage Library. Please check the CALENDAR for grade level days.
