Driving and Parking
If you drive your child to school, we ask that you be aware of the
safety of all children when driving in the of the school.
Due
to the limited number of parking spaces, we ask that parents reserve the
parking
lot
for staff only. Please
park only in the visitors space.
Do not double park or block the road. U-turns are illegal on
both streets. Parking variances will be
requested when whole-school events are being held. If you have any
questions about parking please contact the office. Safety
is a priority at Purple Sage. Please drive
slow and safe.
Bicycles
The following guidelines are established
to prevent injury or loss of property.
1. All
students who ride their bicycles to and from school MUST WEAR A
BICYCLE HELMET.
2. Each
bicycle MUST BE LOCKED.
3. Bikes may
NOT be locked to gates or to the bicycle racks located on the east
side of the school, near the pool.
4. The bicycle
parking area is not supervised the entire day. Riding new, and
expensive bicycles with many attachments should be carefully

bicycles must be WALKED while on school grounds and across the
driveways to the parking lot.
6. Students
should report to the cafeteria immediately
after locking up bicycle.
7.Bicycles

Walking To and From
School
Parents are urged to discuss safety rules
and the responsibilities of good citizenship with their children in
regard to walking to and from school. Purple Sage
provides crossing guards at El Salido and
Tanglebriar.
These points should be stressed:
a. Come directly to school from home.
b. Stay on the sidewalk and walk at all
times up to and inside the crosswalks.
c. Cross streets only at the corners and
crosswalks and with the crossing guard who is on duty before and after
school. To ensure students’ safety and compliance with school rules,
written warnings can be issued to students (with or without an adult
present) if they cross streets in an unsafe manner.
d. Go directly home after school. Do not
talk to strangers.
We highly encourage students to use the
supervised crosswalk.
Absence
Daily class attendance is important, but so
is the health of your child. If your child is ill, or needs to miss
school, please call the office each day your
child is absent at 428-3500. A written note
from parents is mandatory when the student
returns to school. If an absence or tardy is due to a doctor’s
appointment, notify the office that your child will be arriving late or
leaving early due to an appointment with a health care professional.
Please request a note from the doctor’s office for the attendance clerk.
Students will be counted present if they begin classes or return to
school on the same day of the appointment.
State law re-quires students have 90% daily attendance as a
condition for promotion to the next grade. A child not in class at 9:00
a.m. will be marked absent for the day. You
may e-mail absentee notices to our registrar,
Cindy Molina.

Lunchtime/Cafeteria Procedures
Classes line
up quietly in the hallway by the cafeteria.
Teachers monitor their classroom until students enter the serving area.
Students not following procedures will wait at the
end of the line and sit at a designated table.
Lunch Monitors will supervise the classrooms during this time.
Students enter
five at a time on each side of the serving area. After giving their
lunch card to, or paying the cafeteria manager, students sit according
to classroom at the cafeteria tables. Students may quietly talk to their
neighbors while they are eating.
At dismissal
time, Students exit through the door by the
stage and proceed quietly to their classroom or to
the playground with their class teacher.
Classroom Deliveries/Forgotten Items
Lunches, homework, and backpacks are
sometimes left behind. Please bring all forgotten items to the office.
Write the child’s and teacher’s name on the item and a staff member or
volunteer will deliver it. We encourage your support so we are able to
maintain uninterrupted instructional time.
Communication
Communication between home and school
contributes to school success. Parents are encouraged to contact their
child’s teacher to share information, clarify questions, and get to know
each other better. The following identifies communication tools you can
expect:
Folders – Folders containing class
work, tests and school memos are sent home weekly, (Wednesday) for parent
review. Folders should be emptied, signed by the parent and returned the
next day.
Progress Reports – Progress reports
are sent home to parents of students whose grades are declining or below
75, midway through the nine-week grading period.
Parent/Teacher Conferences – Parents
or teachers may request conferences anytime. Teachers are available for
conferences during their conference time or after school. Twice during
the school year, early release days are scheduled for parent
conferences. Students are encouraged to attend their conference for goal
setting and end of year re-view.
Report Cards – Report cards are issued
every nine weeks. The district copy must be signed and returned. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade report cards
will have stages of progress. The explanation of stages will be provided
at the grade level parent orientation meeting.
Telephone - Classrooms are equipped
with a telephone and each teacher has voice mail that will be used
during instruction times and when the teacher is unavailable. Teachers
will provide their school phone number in all communication.
Lost or Damage Textbooks and Library Books
Emergency Contact
Parents must provide telephone numbers where
they, or adult designees, may be reached in the event of illness or
injury. Please send written notice if any contact numbers change during
the year. Please be sure
to update and send in the registration forms. We need accurate home
phone numbers and addresses. In addition, be sure and read the back
side of the form for our dismissal policy.

Procedures
Lost and Found
Jackets, coats, sweaters, and lunch kits tend
to get separated from their owners. A Lost and Found box will be
maintained for lost items. Items will be kept until claimed by their
owner or until the end of each semester.
Medication
We cannot provide medication for students.
Parents must send any medication to the school nurse that is needed
during school hours or kept for emergency use.
Nurse's Notes
When medication must be at school, Texas law
requires that it be furnished in its ORIGINAL LABELED CONTAINER and with
the parent’s signed WRITTEN REQUEST and DIRECTIONS. The container and
your notes must include: student’s name, name of the medication, purpose
of medication, dose, time of day or when it is needed and how the
medication is to be taken. Include telephone numbers where you can be
called if there are concerns. THE SCHOOL REQUIRES THAT ALL MEDICINE BE
CHECKED INTO THE NURSE’S OFFICE. Please do not let your child carry
medication to school. It is best if an adult brings the medication to
the nurse. Medication forms are available in the nurse’s office,
school office and nurse's website.
Telephone – Student Use
Phone use by students
after school is discouraged. Students should arrange for
transportation, lunch, after school plans, etc. prior to arriving at
school. Our office will deliver messages, however students cannot be
directly contacted by phone during instructional time.
Field Trips
Procedures
Parents will always be notified by written note of upcoming field trips. Field trips
are an exciting adventure for both the students and the teachers. Although it rarely
happens, our school policy states that if a child misbehaves on a school field trip,
he/she will not be permitted to go on the next field trip unless accompanied by his/her
parent. Because of the necessity to ensure the safety of all of our children
some students may not be allowed to go because of his/her extreme negative behavior.
Rainy Day Modification
An
announcement will be made on the PA system if we are having rainy day
dismissal. During rainy day dismissal, students will be walked to the
lobby and will quietly wait for their rides according to the signs
posted on the hall walls.
The
Assistant Principal and the
Principal will be in the front of the school and will radio the
names of students inside to the duty person as the students’ rides
arrive.
Morning
kindergarten students will wait for their rides in front of the
school. Afternoon kindergarten students will wait for their rides at the
end of the kindergarten hallway.
