As quoted from the
TEA website:
The International Baccalaureate Program is governed by the
International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva, Switzerland and
administered by the International Baccalaureate Curriculum and
Assessment Center in Cardiff, Wales. The organization originated over
thirty years ago in Europe as an effort by international schools to
assure quality educational standards for students, regardless of where
they lived. Today, the organization uses the talents of educators around
the world to continuously update curriculum, train teachers, assess
student work, and evaluate the program.
As quoted from the IBO website:
The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), founded in
1968, is a recognized leader in the field of international education. It
is a non-profit, mission-driven foundation that works with 1,421 schools
(August 2004) to develop and offer three challenging programmes in 117
countries to approximately 200,000 students.
- the Diploma Programme (High School)
- the Middle Years Programme (Middle School)
- the Primary Years Programme (Elementary School)
While the IB programmes cultivate internationalism
and respect for other cultures, they also adapt to the local environment
and allow students to maintain a strong sense of cultural identity.
Students are taught to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and
engaged citizens, who gain practical experience of being part of an
international community.
