Mentor
Program
Mentors are caring adults who want to be
a positive role model to a child and who are willing to commit to meet
with a student for 30 minutes per week throughout the school year. All
applicants must attend a two hour training, complete an application, and
consent to a DPS criminal background check prior to acceptance into the
mentor program. Those adults interested in volunteering as a mentor at
Grisham should contact Geraldine Rodriguez at 428-2663.
PROS
PROS, Peers Reaching Out and Sharing, is
an organization composed of dedicated, caring juniors and seniors at
Westwood High School and is a part of the State of Texas program called
PAL (Peer Assistance and Leadership). Each PRO, who is expected to
exemplify a healthy lifestyle and serve as a role model, has been
selected after an intensive application and interview process. Each PRO
is paired with two middle school students, who are selected by
counselors and teachers for a variety of reasons. A PRO meets with each
of his/her students once a week for one class period throughout the
school year.
LifeSteps

small-group counseling for students who are interested or who fit into
an at-risk category and are referred by self, parents, or staff. Topics
covered in this 10-week program are stress and anger management,
communication and social skills, and strengthening resistance to
negative environmental factors. A LifeSteps licensed counselor comes to
Grisham and meets with a group for one class period per week. In
addition, LifeSteps has also provided groups on Anger Management and
Grief and Loss.

Those students new to Grisham are invited
to participate in this club in order to get to know one another in a
relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
Multicultural
Club
The purpose of this organization is to
increase the level of understanding and sensitivity towards those from
diverse backgrounds. Our goal is to promote respect and to work toward
Grishams becoming a No Place For Hate school.
