From the Principal

On this glorious March day, with the sun shining and the warmer weather approaching, it reminds me that spring is in the air.  With spring comes our state testing season, meaning the TAKS test.  The TAKS test means different things to different people.  To our 8th graders, it means the test they have to pass in order to go 9th grade.  To our teachers, it is the test that shows whether or not they have effectively taught the state curriculum.  To our school, it is the test that determines our accountability rating.  It has been no secret that Deerpark’s mission this year is to be an Exemplary campus.  Our motto from the beginning has been “Ranger Strong.”  We want our students to not only learn the curriculum, but to master it and be prepared for whatever path lies ahead of them in future years.  Read more from Mrs. Hayes

FREEZE FRAME
Ms. Ikard's class just finished studying Drama, specifically, stage directions and how playwrights create characterization through staging, speech, and stage directions.

Students read a short One-Act play called, "The Marriage of Cupid and Psyche," which tied into our previous Mythology unit.

The students filled out a DRAMA frame in their groups, explaining the significance of their scene, and then worked in groups to visually present the scene in a single, frozen pose with props (without speaking).

This activity helps students visualize the scenes, but it also helps them understand working as a group, and how staging can have an effect.
