The purpose of artyouth / Chisholm
Trail Art Club is to expand and enhance the learning environment for
artistic adolescents within the Chisholm Trail Middle School
community.
Artyouth is a "by application" club with a maximum of
28 students. Students interested in participating must submit an
application to the sponsors prior to the first meeting date in
September of each year. Artyouth meets on scheduled Mondays from
September to May each school year. Participants work on hands-on
projects to enhance the school environment, promote visual art study
and engage the general school population in the artistic process.
Fundraisers and community service projects are part of club
activities.

Student Council

Student Council is a nationally chartered
organization school organization. Our objective is to develop good
citizenship within the student body, provide purposeful direction of
school activities, and assist in the coordination of school
activities. We conduct four school-wide socials a year. Student
Council members plan, decorate for, and clean up after the socials.
In addition, we conduct several school and community-based service
projects throughout the year:
- promote Red Ribbon Week (drug awareness)
- help host a Thanksgiving Dinner for the school custodians
with the Tapestry Club
- Teacher Appreciation
- Valentine's Day Slideshow
- a different Spring project every year
- Student Council is a great way to be a positive,
contributing member of our Student Body at CTMS!

WEB stands for Where Everybody Belongs.
The WEB program began this year as a mentoring program between 8th
graders and 6th graders.
The objectives of WEB are:
- to empower 8th graders as role models,
- to increase academic success through the support of peers,
- to develop leadership skills,
- to pass on positive traditions to younger students,
- to expose students to a variety of individuals at our school
in positive situations,
- to teach students that working together they can be
successful and enjoy one another
- to help create a supportive and positive atmosphere on our
campus.

CHISHOLM TRAIL YOUNG MARINES

Chisholm Trail Young Marines is part of the
Capitol Area Young Marines and is one of over 200 units belonging to
the international Young Marine program. Young Marines is designed to
promote the mental, moral and physical development of today's youth.
Young Marines is a year round organization for male and female
youths from ages 8 - 18. Adult leaders are active, retired or former
Marines with an interest in helping kids develop greater
self-esteem, discipline, and self-confidence through challenging
activities such as camping, swimming, land navigation, close order

Math

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program
that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through
grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. MATHCOUNTS
inspires excellence, confidence and curiosity in U.S. middle school
students through fun and challenging math programs. With the
generous support of all MATHCOUNTS sponsors and volunteers, and
leadership of the National Society of Professional Engineers at the
local and state levels, MATHCOUNTS is providing today’s students
with the foundation for success in science, technology, engineering
and mathematics careers.
Students interested in joining MathCounts see Mr. Speck
as soon as possible. The Regional competition is Saturday, February
20.

Academic Pentathalon |

The Academic Pentathlon competition is comprised of five academic
events: Essay, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science and Super Quiz™
(The American Revolution).
The competition is for students in 7th grade and 8th
grade students. There is one team of 6-9 students for each grade
level. Each team must have 2-3 A students, 2-3 B students,
and 2-3 C students.
Students interested in joining Academic Pentathlon
should see Mr. Speck as soon as possible.

Environmental Science

Meetings: Every other Monday, 3:40
-4:40, Next meeting Nov. 2
History: developed the Xeriscape Friendship garden in
front of the school; provided recycling bins for all classrooms
(many are currently AWOL); favorite topics have included rocketry,
large marine animals, fossil hunting, astronomy, etc.
Current Focus: Watt Watchers and
educating others on helping the environment
Membership Requirements: none. (Students must be passing
all subjects or have special permission from teacher of subject in
which they are failing, to participate in special events.)

Soccer Enrichment Program

Current Focus: Our primary
focus will be to teach your child the fundamentals of the game and
to help them become successful student athletes. Part of that
commitment will include meeting certain scholastic requirements in
order to participate in any scheduled competitive games. We will
have competitive matches with other RRISD Middle Schools during the
Spring semester. After school practices for those not in the soccer
class will begin in January.

Cheerleaders

Cheer Sponsor: Katie Smith
Organization: The cheerleaders cheer at the home
football and basketball games. Cheerleaders are
selected in the spring. The commitment involves a 3 day summer camp
along with after school practices, games plus the cost of camp,
uniforms and other items.

Creative Writing Club

Meetings: Every Tuesday after school

|
The Creative Writers Club is open for
any student interested in the creative writing process. We will read
works that inspire us and write during the meetings. We will have
discussions about our writing and what motivates us to write.
2008-2009 school year was the first year of the club and we created
Chisholm Trail's first literary magazine and we hope to continue
that tradition.

WHAT IS FCA:
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a student led school ministry.
FCA leaders get together at least twice a month to pray, read
devotions and have fellowship.
The leaders plan school wide invitational events, do
community service and attend other FCA activities outside of school
as a group.
Our club is open to everyone – you do not have to be an athlete to join.
Some
of our events in the past have included – See You at The Pole,
Fields of Faith, Movie Day with FCA and serving the community by
volunteering time at the Deep Wood Elementary Harvest Hoedown,
wrapping for Blue Santa and MUCH, MUCH more!

Students compete for the right to be called "School
Spelling Bee Champion"! Winners move on to Regional and State
competitions. School Spelling Bee is held in January.
