2011-12 Final Exam Schedule

ATTENTION 8TH GRADE PARENTS: 8TH Grade Dance is May 11th - Entrance to the dance is Free for your child.
We will be collecting cases of water, sodas (Coke, Dr Pepper, Sprite) and bags of candy (M&M's, Skittles, etc...) and bags of snack size candy (Snickers, 3 musketeers, Reese's, Milky Way, etc...) in the morning during drop off May 8th-11th. (Tuesday - Friday)

We are also seeking donations of washed grapes and strawberries, and baked goods (brownies, cookies, cupcakes). If you would like to donate these they will be collected the day of the dance. Please contact Wendy Thompson at wendythompson@austin.rr.com. Thank you!

ATTENDANCE REMINDER:
It is a requirement of RRISD that notes from home and/or doctor's excuses for absences be turned in to the attendance office on the date the student returns to school. Absences will not be excused without proper documentation. TRAVEL is not an excused absence. Three or more unexcused absences will generate a Truancy Warning Notice.

In your note please include the following: Student's FULL name, grade and ID number, the reason for the absence, parent/guardian's name and signature.

PTA Reflections Program

Volunteering during the 2011-2012 school year Anyone who wishes to volunteer at a Round Rock ISD campus at ANY time during this school year (including fieldtrips) will need to complete an updated criminal background check. Even those who completed a check last year must do so again in compliance with Texas law. Don't forget to indicate which campus you wish to volunteer at on your application.

 
Cougar Congrats:
On Saturday 5/12/12, CTMS had 38 entries in the JrVASE competition. This state level competition is the only one of it's kind in the nation.
In addition to being required to write about their artwork, students and their work are judged individually by professional jurors on a list of categories:
(Student Interview) Student research and Application to Work, Execution and Technique, Use of Elements and Principles, Aesthetic and Critical Judgement, Personal Expression. (Artwork Evaluation) Purpose, Technique, Personal Expression, Organization, Integration.

Scores are tabulated into categories from 1-4, with 4 being the highest.
We brought back 32 - 4's, and 6-3's!!!

*In addition, we brought back a Silver Seal (highest possible award in the state for MS art)!!! Only 5% of the 4's in each Division are able to receive Silver Seals.

Congratulations to the CTMS Band
This weekend at the Lonestar Showcase, The CTMS Symphonic Band earned an Excellent Rating and the Honor Band earned a Superior rating. J Elizondo and V Morrison earned Outstanding Soloist awards. The Honor Band also brought home the Outstanding in Class, and Overall Outstanding Trophies. It was a great weekend for CTMS!

Congratulations to all of the Chisholm Trail French students who took the National French Exam this past March. All students ranked within the top 20 percent nationwide.
N Homchowdhury is ranked within the top 20 percent;
M Burris and K Landt are ranked within the top 15 percent; and A Ashok, C Cho, E Gordon and R Lock are all ranked among the top 10 percent of all French students in the nation.

G. Singh competed in the ExxonMobil Texas Science & Engineering Fair in San Antonio and placed 2nd in the Energy & Transportation category! She also received a special award from the Society of American Military Engineers.

R. Chakravarty competed in the Scripps State Spelling Bee in Houston and placed 7th out of 55 contestants. Way to go Rohan!

Science Fair Winners!

G Singh won 1st place in the Energy and Transportation category. G Singh also won special awards for Austin Energy Best in Climate Control and an award from Broadcam Masters. R Chakravarty won 2nd place in the Cellular and Molecular Biology category and he also won a Broadcast Masters award. The two students will advance to the state level!!! Great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CTMS is so proud of you!!!

Congratulations to R Chakravarty for winning the Regional Zone XI Spelling Bee.  He will go on to represent CTMS at the state spelling bee in Houston on 3/31/12.

Congratulations to CTMS band students who went to Solo and Ensemble competition at Ridgeview M.S. Out of the 75 students that participated, 65 students received a Superior rating which is the best you can get. 10 students received the Excellent rating. This is the best we have ever done!!

Congratulations to the CTMS FCA for using their $500 grant from the Meadows Foundation to make-over one of the cottages at the First Baptist Childrens Home.

The Fall One Act Play Contest was a huge success for CTMS students for their production of Property Rites at the PAC Saturday 11/12.

Region Orchestra auditions were this weekend. After a competitive and grueling audition process, three of our Chisholm Trail MS students have made the Region Orchestra. They are Vaishnavi Sankar, violin; David Cox, viola; and Magera Shaw, harp. Please congratulate these students.


Kudos to Mr. Caldwell's students for raising $1350 in aide for the Humane Society to help animals affected by the Bastrop County fires.

Forty-two Round Rock ISD students were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists this Fall. They will continue in the competition for some 8,300 Merit Scholarship® awards, worth more than $34 million, that will be offered next spring.
