Caraway
Science Fair
2009
Are you interested in science? Do you like to do science experiments? If so, you should take part in the 2009 Caraway Elementary Science Fair! This year’s event will be held on January 26, 2009. All Caraway students are invited to participate. Fifteen projects will be selected to advance to the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival held on February 21st. If you wish to participate, follow the steps below.
Come up with a
Project
The Science Fair recognizes three types of projects: (1) Collection with Classification; (2) Exhibit; and (3) Experiment. Download Austin Regional Science Festival's Elementary Division Handbook to learn more about these categories. Please also read the Caraway Science Fair Rules and Guidelines. Certain projects and certain project items are not allowed. If you need help with a project idea, look on-line or go to your public library – there are a lot of great science fair resources. Caraway also has many talented science teachers: Go talk to one of these teachers about your idea.
Register for
the Fair
Registration forms will be sent home in the Monday folders on December 1st. You may also download the form here. We’ve created a checklist to help you through this process. Make sure you follow the steps. Registrations must be received no later than Friday, January 9th. We encourage all participants to choose to have their projects judged (after all of the hard work, it’s fun to talk to someone about your project).
Do Your Project
The Elementary Division Handbook describes the required elements for each of the three types of projects. Follow the Caraway Rules and Guidelines. You should also look at the judging form that is used to evaluate your project. There are separate forms for Collections, Exhibits and Experiments. Even if you’re not having your project judged, these may be helpful to you.
Attend the Fair
On January 26th, bring your project with you to
school in the morning. Your teacher will
allow you to take your project to the gym during the school day. You should plan to be by your project at 4:45
p.m. Judging will begin promptly at 5:00
p.m. and last until 7:00 p.m. During
this time, only participants will be allowed in the project area (the
gymnasium).
Public viewing will occur from 7:00 – 7:45 p.m., and awards will be
announced at 7:45 p.m.
