ADVANCED CHESS LESSONS
Advanced Chess Lessons are designed to prepare students who already know the moves and rules of chess to play in United States Chess Federation (USCF) tournament competition. Each student must own a standard tournament set and board ($10). They must also join the USCF($15/yr.) so they can compete in tournaments. Most tournaments are on Saturdays, run all day, and cost $10-15 to enter. Advanced Chess students are expected to compete regularly. Scholarships are available to those in need.
Students will be provided with chess training materials. There is a small amount of homework (15-30 minutes/day) that must be done if the student hopes to improve and compete successfully. If it is not fun for them they probably should not be in Advanced Chess.
We will meet from 2:45-4:15 PM every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Science Lab except for days when both Mr. Nyman and Mr. Cook, the sponsors, are in meetings. Parents will be notified by email each Friday about the next week’s classes.
Parent volunteers and players are always welcome. |
