Hello, Caraway Students and Families! My name is D’Ann Laskowski. I am the new Assistant Principal and I am thrilled to be working at this amazing school. I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of you.

Like many Austinites, I decided to make Austin my home after attending the University of Texas. I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1984 and started teaching at Dorothy Linder Elementary in southeast Austin. In 1996, I began graduate school at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos to obtain a master in Reading. In 2002, while working at J. J. Pickle Elementary in northeast Austin, I started my journey towards certification as an administrator.

In the 23 years I have been in education, I have been a classroom teacher (third), a Reading Recovery Teacher, a master reading teacher for K-5, an instructional leader (K-5) and, most recently, an instructional coach for elementary teachers. After 22 years in the Austin Independent School District, I decided to move to the best school district in Texas – Round Rock!

I met my husband, Tom, while attending the University of Texas. We have four children and one crazy beagle named Sandy. Our oldest daughter, Julia (23), graduated from UT Austin this past May with a degree in Civil Engineering and now lives and works in San Antonio. Daughter number two, Emily (21), is in her fourth year at UT Austin and promises she’ll finish by August. She is studying English and government and has plans to go to graduate school but hasn’t found a funding source. Our son, Thomas (15), is a sophomore at L. C. Anderson High School in Austin. He plays soccer and swims. Unfortunately, he’s on the DL (injured list) due to a fracture of the left arm. He hopes to be back on the field and in the pool by the middle of October. Our youngest daughter, Chris Anne (13), is an 8th grader at E. A. Murchison Middle School in Austin. She swims for the Lonestar Aquatic Club, plays soccer for the River City Rangers, and plays volleyball for her middle school.

As Assistant Principal, I’m looking forward to meeting students and parents through the various activities on our campus and to becoming a part of this wonderful community. In the few short weeks I’ve been here, I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Ms. Hohmann, the teachers and staff, and the entire Caraway community.
