Canyon Vista Middle School PTAReflections Program
Purpose
National PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program. The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in four areas: literature, dance, musical composition, photography, film/video, and visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage).
In its more than 30-year history, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art. The Reflections Program was started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson.

The Reflections theme for 2009-2010 is "Beauty Is...". Canyon Vista's deadline for entering the program is October 30.

2009-2010 CVMS PTA Reflections Art Program Theme: "Beauty Is..." Who: All students are invited to create “Beauty Is...” original works of art in the following categories: Dance Choreography Music Composition Visual Arts Photography Film/Video Literature Students, parents, and staff… your support, enthusiasm and encouragement for participating in the Reflections Program will make this program a success! What: Reflections is designed to enhance rather than replace a quality arts education. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves and to receive positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Students participate in the Reflections Program by submitting entries to their local PTA. Where: Information about rules for each category, required entry forms, and a gallery of previous winning art can be found at: http://www.txpta.org/programs/reflections -- entry forms, rules by category, etc. http://www.ptareflections.org/cs/program_gallery -- browse the art gallery of the 2008 National PTA Winners Entries can be completed at home or, in some cases, at school for class assignments/projects/extra credit (check with your teacher). Only projects based on this year’s theme can be entered. All entries must be the original idea/creation/work of one student only. When: Entries Due: November 9th in the Reflections Box in CVMS Parent Center or turn in to your advisory teacher. Why: Have fun, develop your skills, participate in an extra-curricular activity and show off your talents and originality! Receive recognition for your art! Projects that receive an “Award of Excellence” will advance from CVMS judging, to RRISD Council, State, and possibly National PTA competition levels. Since 2006, two students from RRISD have won Overall National Awards in Film/Video and Visual Arts and been invited to receive their awards at National PTA conventions.
