PTA STARS Mentor Program
Impact the Future - One Child at a Time!
CVMS and RRISD participate in the Partners in Education
STARS (Supporting, Teaching, and Reaching Students) Mentor
Program, a school-based program designed to provide regular
additional attention to students in need, through a
one-on-one relationship with a community volunteer.
Mentors are caring adult men and women who are willing to be
a positive role model to a student. Mentors come from all
walks of life, from parents and grandparents to business
professionals and members of civic organizations.
Students who are paired with mentors represent a wide range
of ages, interests, and needs. Teachers, counselors, and
parents often recommend students for the program. Many
students request a mentor. Parent and student permissions
are obtained before a student is matched with a mentor.
Mentors and their student mentees meet on a regular basis,
typically over the student’s lunch period/study hall, and
talk, play cards, go for walks, have lunch, etc. while
building their relationship. Periodically, special
activities may be planned, such as “Game Days,” for group
mentor/mentee participation. We aim to provide regular,
positive communication with the mentee in a relaxed
environment at school.
