Program Description
Call for 2009-2010 Volunteers
Canyon Vista Art Volunteers in the Classroom (AVIC) is calling for classroom volunteers – this is one of a few volunteer opportunities at CVMS that offers classroom interaction with the students and our outstanding teachers at CVMS. AVIC will be celebrating its 15th year at CVMS! If you enjoy a good conversation and would like to learn about some of the world’s greatest art to share with CVMS students, then the Art Volunteer program is for you!
The Canyon Vista Art Volunteer program is made up of parent volunteers who visit the school during the advisory time period to facilitate 15-minute discussions about art and various artists. The program has a wonderful collection of artwork and research information for each of the artists presented. Students are given the opportunity to sharpen their observation, analytical, interpretive, and discussion skills with art as the subject—it’s always a lot of fun and everyone learns something new!
What Do Parents Know About Art??
PLENTY! Especially if they join the Canyon Vista Art Volunteers! We begin by learning together about famous artists from around the world, then we share our knowledge with students in the classrooms throughout the school year.
If you love art or are simply interested in learning more about art, then please consider joining the Art Volunteers! No previous artistic background or knowledge is required—we provide all the training you’ll need in one convenient meeting, supplemented by our wonderful training collection on DVD. The Art Volunteers is entering its 15th
year at Canyon Vista, and is the only program at the school
which enables parents to spend time in their own child’s
classroom, and also interact with other teachers on your
child’s team. If learning more about art in a relaxed, fun environment, and then sharing what you’ve learned with our students appeals to you, then please contact our Chairman, Eileen McKeon Butt, at 825-6223 or eileen_butt@hotmail.com for more information. Our program begins early in the Fall, so please don’t hesitate to call or email now if you’d like to be part of the team. We hope to welcome you into the Art Volunteers this year!
2009-2010 Program
This coming school year, we’ll be presenting the works of artists such as: M.C. Escher, Henri Matisse, Johannes Vermeer, Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, among others.
