What is Partners in Education?

By combining the resources and skills of business managers, community leaders, parents, educators, and other concerned citizens, the Partners in Education program is able to assist students in a variety of ways.

Mission Statement

To prepare all students to be productive in a global environment by fostering the collaborative efforts of businesses, parents, educators, and community.

Goals

To develop opportunities for business and other available resources to become actively involved in  Round Rock ISD schools and to support programs that affect at-risk students.

Primary Program Areas

School Supplies Program - School supplies are provided free of charge to Round Rock ISD students who would otherwise start school without the needed tools. The program serves students in all grade levels who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.

Businesses, civic organizations, and individuals donate funds and supplies. The district is
then able to purchase additional supplies with quantity discounts through a special
partnership with a vendor.

One week prior to the start of school, the students are invited to "shop" for their school
supplies at a special "store" set up by Partners in Education and staffed by volunteers.
This helps preserve the students' self-esteem by allowing them to shop for supplies like
other children in the district. The students simply bring a voucher from their school
counselor or nurse and then make their choices at the store.

Student and Family Support (SFS) Program - The Student and Family Support Counseling Program addresses unmet counseling and support needs of school-age youth and their families by matching students, campuses, and families with community therapists. Supporters provide either funds or services. SFS is sponsored by Partners in Education and the Austin Area Mental Health Association.

Summer School Scholarships -Partners in Education scholarships enable many low-income students to attend summer school and obtain the classes they need to achieve in school.

Mentorship Program - Caring adults from the community are paired with students who need another positive role model in their life. The mentorship program is a friendship-based, motivational program. Students and mentors are matched based on common interests and compatibility.

Mentors are expected to meet with students at least once each week for approximately one hour throughout the school year. Training is provided.

The program has proven to be rewarding for both mentors and students. Many mentors follow their students as they progress through the grades.

Teen Parent Program - This program helps RRISD pregnant and teen parent students meet their special challenges with school, children, and life. Services include tutoring, campus counselor and nurse, support group, home instruction teacher, child care, and referrals to community health and service agencies.
