Gateway to Technology A

Prerequisites:

1. Grade 7

2. Enrolled in Accelerated Math

3. Submitted application at the time of registration for the next school year

This course is centered around the idea of bringing pre-engineering curriculum and concepts to students through practical applications while their opinions about careers and interests are still forming. The goal of the program is to increase the number, quality, and diversity of engineers graduating from our educational system. This program offers students the chance to find out if engineering is the career for them before they spend thousands of dollars on college courses. The curriculum is designed to help students become the kind of prepared, competent, high-tech employees U. S. industry needs to stay competitive in the global market.

 

Gateway to Technology B

Prerequisites:

1. Grade 8

2. Enrolled in Algebra

3. Successful completion of Gateway to Technology A

4. Submitted application at the time of registration for the next school year

Students successfully completing Gateway to Technology B earn one High School Elective credit. The program comprises five units that are taught in conjunction with rigorous academic core courses.

1. The Science of Technology (taught in 1st year Gateway A)

Students apply scientific principles and concepts of simple machines and energy to solve real-world problems.

 

2. Design and Modeling (taught in 1st year Gateway A)

Students use geometry, problem-solving, teamwork, and project management skills to design and develop product prototypes.

 

3. The Magic of Electrons – Digital Electronics (taught in 2nd year Gateway B)

Engaged in relevant hands-on projects, students unravel the mystery of digital circuitry.

 

4. Automation and Robotics (taught in 2nd year Gateway B)

Students design and build automated systems incorporating the principles of electronics, physics, and robotics to gain an enriched understanding of the contemporary mechanized world.

 

5. Flight and Space (taught in 2nd year Gateway B)

Students explore the technology of aeronautics, propulsion, and rocketry through hands-on projects involving math and science.
