French 1A and 1B
Level I of a foreign language is a two-year program in
middle school equivalent to the high school's first-year
course. It is recommended that students who register for
foreign language courses should have achieved an average of
80 or above in language arts. In order to receive high
school credit, a student must successfully complete both 7th
and 8th grade years of foreign language.

This course begins the basic program in French with the
introduction to communication skills of listening, speaking,
reading, writing, viewing and showing. Students will compare
cultures and language, as well as make cultural and
community connections.
Introduction to French stresses spoken communication in
everyday situations but includes the visual reinforcement of
reading and writing. Games, skits, videos, CDs and projects
are used to reinforce language skills and to introduce
various aspects of the cultures of French-speaking peoples.
One high school credit is earned with successful completion
of French 1B.
