Canyon Vista Bands

Beginner Band

 This program is for the student who is playing an instrument for the first time. The students play with their sections consisting of similar instruments, and only play together as a full band at concerts. The techniques they learn in this beginner's course are a solid musical background. After Spring break, students audition for placement into the Concert, Symphonic, Select Symphonic, and Honors band. At the end of the year, members of this band travel to Fiesta Texas. The trip is funded by the band students through magazine sales.

Concert Band

 Students in this band participate in approximately four concerts a year and compete at U.I.L. as a band. Individually, students can participate in a Solo/Ensemble competition in April. District and region band try outs are optional. At the end of the year, members of this band and the other 7th/8th grade bands travel to Fiesta Texas. The trip is funded by the band students through magazine sales.

Symphonic Band

 In this band students take three songs to a UIL contest and play in approximately four concerts a year. In April, students may participate in the Solo/Ensemble competition. District and region band try outs are optional. Symphonic band travels to Fiesta Texas at the end of the year with the other 7th/8th grade bands.

Select Symphonic Band

 Select Symphonic Band plays in approximately four concerts a year. The band participates in the UIL competition, and students are offered the chance to compete in the Solo/Ensemble contest as well. District and region band try outs are required as a member of this band. They also travel to Fiesta Texas at the end of the year.

Honors Band

Honors band is the band for the most accomplished musicians. In this band students participate in approximately four concerts. Students go to U.I.L. competition, optionally participate in the Solo/ Ensemble competition, and try out for district and region band (required). Honors band will also perform at most pep rallies throughout the year. Students will travel to Fiesta Texas and compete at DC Festivals at the end of the year.

Pep Band

 Pep Band is an optional ensemble that performs at 4 home football games. Students who do not participate in football or cheerleading may be a member. Placement in the Pep Band is by invitation only. Rehearsals and games are scheduled for Tuesdays after school. 

Jazz Band

 The Jazz Band is a group of students who are also enrolled in a regular band class. They participate in 3 - 4 concerts a year playing mostly jazz selections. This band consists of the regular band instruments, a drum set, keyboard, and electric guitars. Depending on the number of students who apply for Jazz Band, auditions may be required.

Students in all of the bands contribute to the band and help make Canyon Vista's band program a big success. About 40% of the students in the school participate in band.
