Entrance Criteria

2009-2010 NJHS Prospects:

7th and 8th grade students who have maintained a 95 average through the first 4 six weeks of the current year will receive a Student Activity Information Form for NJHS through their Advisory teacher mid-March. The completed form/essay must be turned in to the Library. No late essays will be accepted. After the form is turned in by the student, there is a reviewing/selection committee that finalizes the list for NJHS inductees. While the academic criterion is the most important, service, leadership, character and citizenship are also part of the criteria for membership.

Citizenship, service and leadership involve participation in classroom, school and community activities. On the REQUIRED N.J.H.S. ESSAY, students should provide many examples of their participation, service and leadership in the classroom, school and community activities, such as classroom interactions, school clubs and organizations, scouting, church groups, community service, etc. The character criterion is defined by consistently exemplifying appropriate behavior.

The students and parents will be notified of their acceptance status by mail mid April. The induction ceremony will be held in May 11th at 7pm.

Activities

Members should try to participate in as much of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) activities and projects as they can. Activities vary from year to year, but usually include the following:

  • Thanksgiving Project - collecting food assembling and decorating food baskets and designing cards for Turkey Dinner gift certificates
  • Holiday Project - gifts for needy children or families
  • Various community service projects
  • Spring Induction Ceremony for new NJHS members.
