PBS
(Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports)

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to promote positive behavior, build character, and increase student achievement by cultivating caring relationships between teachers, students, and staff.

What is PBS?

"Improving student academic and behavior outcomes is about ensuring all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional and behavioral practices and interventions possible. SWPBS provides an operational framework for achieving these outcomes. More importantly, SWPBS is NOT a curriculum, intervention, or practice, but IS a decision making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for all students" (http://www.pbis.org/).

What does PBS emphasize?

"In general, SWPBS emphasizes four integrated elements: (a) data for decision making, (b) measurable outcomes supported and evaluated by data, (c) practices with evidence that these outcomes are achievable, and (d) systems that efficiently and effective support implementation of these practices" (http://www.pbis.org/).

Longhorn Stars

Students can earn Longhorn Stars when they demonstrate that they are the following: Honest, Orderly, Respectful, Neighborly, and Self-Disciplined.

Lunchroom monitors and teachers will give out green Longhorn Stars for good behavior in the cafeteria. Students will have a chance to put their names on their stars and drop them in a bucket in the library by the end of the day on Thursday. The librarian will draw one lucky student per grade level and announce the winners on KCRE Friday morning. On Monday morning, winners get a choice to take a small “Sure thing” prize or try to make “The Impossible Shot."

Any adult can give out blue Longhorn Stars for good behavior in all other areas of the school. Students will turn in their stars to their classroom teachers, and reward systems will vary.
