Summer Safety
As the year draws to a close, it’s a good opportunity to remind students about steps they can take to stay safe at home during the summer. We regularly review safety information with our students, and we ask parents to also discuss the following safety tips with your children:

•  Always walk or bike with other students or a parent and be alert to what is happening and who is around you.

• Keep your distance from strangers. Never accept treats or rides from a stranger, even if the person says a parent sent them.

• Do not go with a stranger even if they say a parent is hurt or they need help finding a lost pet. If a stranger approaches you, scream and run. Find an adult you know and report what happened immediately.

• Don’t play in deserted areas, such as empty playgrounds, parks, or construction sites.

• If you think someone is following you, go where there are other people. Don’t hide or go home if no one else is there.

• Never tell someone you are home alone, whether on the phone or if they come by the house. Do not open the door if you are home alone.

Remember to protect your children from the hot summer sun with sunscreen, UV protective clothes and minimizing outdoor play time during the hottest part of the day. Also remind children to stay hydrated by drinking a minimum of the recommended eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day, especially if they are involved in summer sports and activities.
