The International Baccalaureate Primary Years
Programme (IB-PYP) Learner Profile*
The philosophy of the Primary Years Programme
is expressed in a series of desired traits that characterize
learners with an international perspective. They create a profile of
a PYP student, and at Anderson Mill we intend to teach and model
these traits so that every student grows toward this profile:
INQUIRERS
Their natural curiosity has been nurtured. They have skills
necessary to conduct purposeful research. They enjoy learning and
will for life.
THINKERS
They set out to apply thinking skills critically and creatively to
make sound decisions and solve complex problems.
COMMUNICATORS
They receive and express ideas and information confidently in more
than one language, including the language of mathematical symbols.
RISK-TAKERS
They approach unfamiliar situations without anxiety and have the
confidence and independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas,
and strategies. They are courageous and well-spoken in defending
those things in which they believe.
KNOWLEDGEABLE
In school they have explored themes that are globally important and
have acquired a great deal of significant knowledge.
PRINCIPLED
They have a strong understanding of moral reasoning, integrity,
honesty, fairness and justice.
CARING
They show sensitivity towards the needs and feelings of others. They
have a sense of personal commitment to action and service.
OPEN-MINDED
They respect the views, values and traditions of other people and
cultures and are always willing to consider a range of points of
view.
BALANCED
They understand the importance of physical and mental balance and
person well-being.
REFLECTIVE
They give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and analyze
their personal strengths and weaknesses in a constructive manner.
