Act 5 Scene Summaries

 

Scene1:

Romeo dreams that Juliet has found him dead. Balthasar then goes to Mantua, where Romeo is now living, and tells him that Juliet has died. Romeo if filled with grief and goes to an apothecary to buy poison so he can die with Juliet.  Once Romeo had gotten the poison he desires he goes to Verona to find Juliet's body.

   

Scene2:

       Friar Lawrence's messenger returns and informs Friar Lawrence that he has failed to deliver the letter to Romeo. With his plans ruined, Friar Lawrence runs to the Capulet's monument so he can be there before she awakes. He decides to hide Juliet there until Romeo comes to take her away.

 

Scene3:

    Juliet has been placed in the tomb with many of her dead relatives. As night falls Paris goes to the tomb to grieve over Juliet's death.  Meanwhile, Romeo had been informed of Juliet's death and rushed from Mantua to Verona to die with his bride.  When Romeo arrives at the tomb, he sees Paris there . A fight breaks out and Romeo kills Paris and brings his body into the tomb. Romeo then sees Juliet lying lifeless in the tomb next to Tybalt. He then drinks a vat of poison, killing him instantly, and falls to the floor next to Juliet's body.  A few moments later Juliet wakes from her coma like sleep and sees Romeo dead next to her. In a moment of grief, Juliet takes a dagger form Romeo and stabs herself. The two are found dead in the tomb by a night guard and the families feud is finally resolved.
