| Class Rank | |
Class rank is used to report each students academic standing relative to his peers. It is used to determine valedictorian, salutatorian, honor graduates, top 10%, top 25%, and top 50%. An exact numerical class rank is reported for each student. The class rank is based on weighted grades earned in academic core courses and languages other than English, so that academic ranking is not affected by electives or extracurricular activities. Class rank is determined by computing an overall academic average of semester grades earned. Regular classes (English, math, science, social studies, and languages other than English) are computed on a 5.0 scale. Pre-AP/IB, AP, IB, and TAG courses (English, math, science, social studies, and languages other than English) are computed on a 6.0 scale. See the charts to the right for the breakdown of the 5.0 and 6.0 scales. 5.0 Scale (English, Math, Science, Social Studies and languages other than English) 6.0 ScaleRegular courses in Pre-AP/IB, IB, AP, TAG in English, Math, Science,Social Studies, and languages other than English.
The reported GPA will not necessarily predict class rank. A student may have a lower GPA but a higher class rank than other students due to the courses included and the weighted grades used for class rank.
