Walsh Middle School

History of Walsh
Walsh Middle School,
the ninth middle school in the Round Rock Independent School District, was
named after a long time resident of Round Rock, Texas. Mr. James Garland
Walsh’s family owned the land where the school and surrounding subdivision
is located, along Sam Bass Road in Williamson County. The school is built on
one of the last remaining tracts of land ranched by the Walsh family who
settled in the area in the mid 1800s. The family, original owners of the
Round Rock and Austin White Lime companies, was the largest employer in
Williamson County for nearly 100 years. T
Dying in 2003 at the age
of 95, Mr. Walsh lived his entire life in Round Rock. He was an active
rancher, businessman, school board member, child advocate, and mentor. His
dedication to community, school, and family prompted many community members
to nominate and support naming the middle school after a man who exemplified
all the qualities of excellence synonymous with education in the Round Rock
school district.

O Walsh, our Walsh
to the green and gold
We pledge our loyalty.

And through the years our hearts will yearn
when fond memories return;
We will hear again the glad refrain:
To you, O Walsh, Our Walsh.
