Stony Point is the winner of the 2009 Peanut Butter and Jelly Bowl!!! We were able to fill the shelves of the Round Rock Area Serving Center and provide a much needed service to the area. When the Round Rock Area Serving Center personnel came on Friday to collect the jelly, they said that the Serving Center did not currently have any jars of jelly to put on the shelves. They spoke about how much it would mean to the kids to have jelly to go with their peanut butter sandwiches.

HOSA has Another Successful Blood Drive

Thanks to everyone who helped to support our Blood Drive on February
23, 2009. Here are the results:
Blood Drive Goal: 150
# of Donors Presented: 163 Total
Deferrals: 28
Total Number of Donations Collected: 135
Total Number of Alyx Donations Collected: 20
FYI - The ALYX donations were those who met a certain criteria to be able
donate 2 units of red blood cells (the plasma and platelets were given back
to the donor).
The TOTAL # is 135 + 20 (ALYX)= 155 units of blood!
THIS IS OUTSTANDING!!!! Our last drive in December totaled at 136 units
of blood so we definitely did a super job this time; The entire process
went very well this time! The wait time was reduced significantly. It is
very encouraging to see SPHS come together to work towards such a admirable
goal... to SAVE LIVES! Be on the lookout for another drive
on APRIL 20th! Those who donated this time can donate again... the drives
are exactly 56 days apart. Thanks again to everyone!

Advanced Academics
Parent & Student Information Night

Almost 100 parents and students attended the SPHS Advanced Academics Parent & Student Information Night last Thursday, January 22, in the Lecture Hall. In addition to honoring the AP Scholars from the past two years, Associate Principal, Dr. Deb Brennan and IB Coordinator, Brad Harper, engaged the audience with a presentation on how advanced academic courses like Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) not only help students get into college but dramatically increase their chances of earning a bachelor's degree on time - not to mention the potential savings from earning college credit through these programs.
This presentation was followed by a student/parent panel made up of former AP Scholar Evan Fuhr and parents Nancy Durant, Susan Delgado, and Martha Grandin. Their testimonials to the benefits of advanced academics drew numerous questions from the audience and confirmed the value of the programs for many. The evening was capped off with a series of break-out sessions where parents and students could choose what advanced subjects they wanted to investigate and learn more about. If you were unable to attend or would like more information please contact Dr. Deb Brennan at 428-7000 or Brad Harper at 428-7026.

HOSA has a successful Blood Drive

The Blood Drive on December 2nd was a huge success! This event was sponsored by HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). HOSA is an organization that exists to develop future leaders and to promote career opportunities in the health care industry to students. This blood drive gave the HOSA members an opportunity to serve our community by supporting the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas! They supply more than 33 medical facilities in 10 counties of Central Texas. The total amount of blood donated at our drive, here at Stony Point, was 139 units! After going through an extensive interview process for safety reasons, the donors proceeded to the room with the phlebotomists where they would actually donate. Many brave souls were not able to give blood due to one reason or another but their willingness to save a life is commended! Thanks to everyone who participated and supported this LIFE GIVING event!!!!!!
