The U.S. Naval Academy will hold three, six day seminars for students who have completed their junior year. The Summer Seminar teaches students about life at the Naval Academy. Any student interested in pursuing an appointment to one of the nation's service academies should seriously consider attending of the seminars. For more information visit www.usna.edu.

Summer Activities/Camps

Passport to Aggieland 2009 - Texas A&M University, College Station
Passport to Aggieland 2009 which is our overnight excursion for students interested in admissions to Aggieland. This program will take place from Tuesday, June 30th - Wednesday, July 1st. For those interested, they will receive an up close and personal look into A&M and what we have to offer our students in regards to academics, life, and traditions! With this being said, I am so excited to extend an invitation to your upcoming seniors receive an opportunity to participate in our "Passport to Aggieland 2009" program this summer. There are requirements to participate in this program; the students you approach regarding this opportunity must meet one of two categories
  1. Top 10%

  2. OR
  3. Academic Admit which is defined as a student in the 1st quarter of their high school class with the minimum SAT of 600 in CR and 600 MTH with the combined between the two sections of a 1300 OR a composite ACT score of 30 with at least a 27 in MTH and 27 in Eng. These students must show proof of having taken their SAT or ACT.
Students interested in attending must complete the registration form and release forms by Monday, June 8, 2009. Please know space is limited on this trip and on a first come, first serve basis. See Counseling Center for application and more details.
Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi for 11th & 12th grade students
The GATE Program begins July 12, 2009 and ends on August 1, 2009. The curricular focus of the Governor's Academy for Teaching Excellence is in the area of science and mathematics, specializing in preparing and encouraging students to pursue careers as science and mathematics educators. During the program, the four academic components of GATE: math, science, pedagogy, and leadership will be planned, taught, and modeled by 10 exemplary mentor teachers. As part of the summer experience, TAMU-CC will award scholarships to participating students for one undergraduate course (EDCI 2307: Schooling in a Democracy). Another important component of the GATE Program will be a leadership project that students will complete on their home campuses during the following school year. Students' travel expenses to Corpus Christi, dormitory housing, and meals will be covered by GATE funding. Texas A&M University, The College of Architecture "Camp ARCH"
This resident summer camp is July 12th - July 18th. The program accepts high school students who have completed the 9th grade and higher and incoming freshmen. Applications and additional information is available online at http://camparch.tamu.edu. The deadline for application is May 15th and may be postmarked on that day.
Texas A&M University, College Station- Free 3 Week Residential Arts and Humanities Program
The Texas Governor's School in Arts and Humanities for Urban Leadership at Texas A&M University in College Station is a three-week intensive residential summer educational program, open to all qualified high-achieving Texas public high school students who will be in 11th or 12th grade in the 2009-2010 school year. The program will intentionally seek a diverse pool of applicants from every educational service center in the State of Texas. Applicants selected to attend the Governor's School will include female and male students from all racial, ethnic, cultural, social economic, linguistic, geographic, and gender groups. Every effort will be made to accommodate for students with special needs. Students who are selected to attend the Governor's School will be responsible only for transportation to and from the Governor's School and other personal expenses such as linens, towels, toiletries, and other necessary personal supplies. The Governor's School is supported by a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). The Texas A&M Governor's School will recruit 100 diverse, high-achieving 11th and 12th grade students in the 2009-2010 school year who have demonstrated an interest in the arts, humanities, and urban leadership. High-achieving students might include one or more of the following: ranked in the top 10% of their class; excellent scores in TAKS test, SAT, or other similar tests; are currently enrolled in a gifted and talented program; are student government or community leaders; or, excel in one or more of the arts and/or humanities. Students will be responsible for documenting their interest in the program, qualifications, and evidence of high achievement in the application materials. Prairie View A&M University
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) is pleased to announce its "2009 Summer Transportation Institute." The Summer Transportation Institute (STI) caters to rising 11th and 12th grade students (completed 10th or 11th grade by Summer). It is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and designed by PVAMU. STI is a four-week, on-campus, learning opportunity for a diverse group of high school students. The program provides experiences for these students to enhance their awareness of career opportunities that exist in the engineering and transportation industry. The curriculum exposes students to new frontiers and adventures such as highway design, the transportation of people and cargo, intermodal (involving more than one form) transportation, safety, environmental issues and related career opportunities. Approximately 18 students receive a scholarship that covers the cost for participating in the STI program. The cost for participation is approximately $2,500 and the scholarship covers the entire cost, thus making the program free for the selected participants. The application (2 pages) and recommendation form and other required documentation must be completed and submitted by May 8, 2009. The 2009 PVAMU STI is scheduled to start on Sunday, June 7, 2009, and conclude on Thursday, July 3, 2009. Texas A&M, Galveston "Sea Camp Programs"
Founded in 1986 by Dr. Sammy Ray, Sea Camp has opened up the world of marine biology to over 12,000 campers during its 22 years of existence. Sea Camp is located at Texas A&M University at Galveston's Mitchell Campus. For more information www.tamug.edu/seacamp.
ACC's Summer Bridge Program
Courses and workshops will assist recent high school graduates to achieve college readiness and transition successfully into college-level courses. The Bridge Programs are non-credit short term courses in math readiness, Compass math preparation, reading skills, and writing skills. One course combines math, reading, and writing. All courses include a study skills/College Success component. The Program provides intensive academic assistance to help students advance to the next skill level or fulfill the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements. Students must meet with an Advisor or Counselor to determine eligibility PRIOR to enrolling in the course. The courses for Summer 2009 are listed in the attached program that you may download or copy, and at the Bridge website www.austincc.edu/bridge. Registration begins 7:30am, April 28. Students can register through the link found on the bridge website, or through continuing education.
Texas Lutheran University
offers the Lone Star Scholars Academy which is a two-week residential program that offers university-level courses for transferable college credit to academically gifted high school students. Each LSSA student will participate in two courses taught by select TLU faculty. Small classes, awesome field trips, fun evening activities and a group service project are what make LSSA the best thing going this July. Who is eligible, All students who have completed at least their freshman year in high school, have successfully taken the PSAT and or rank in the top half of their class and receive a strong recommendation from a teacher or counselor. Trinity University, San Antonio, TX
Summer participants live on their beautiful campus and practice college-level reading, writing, and speaking in a challenging, yet relaxed environment. Texas Christian University
The Office of Extended Education is offering summer programs in Austin. Reading skills and speed reading programs for children ages 4-17. Programs are also available for college students and adults. All programs meet once each week at three different locations in Austin. For more information or to register call 1-800-979-9151. Georgetown College will offer its nineteenth consecutive summer math and science camp, called PAEMS (Pre-college Academic Experience in Math and Science). Oxford Advanced Studies summer program
July 7th-31st, 2009. Give yourself the Oxford edge summer course in Brasenose College in Oxford, England.
