Chess Club
The Pioneer Chess Club is for students in
grades 2 through 5. We meet weekly in the library at 7 AM.
Students are taught to play using traditional chess rules. The club is
divided into three groups based on proficiency. Students play other
students who are in the same group, and the lessons are tailored to each
group's needs. They also learn new skills and strategies each week to
increase their proficiency in chess.
Playing chess improves critical and abstract thinking skills, as well as
logic and strategic thinking. It helps students learn to concentrate
and problem solve. Sign up at the beginning of the school year.
Safety Patrol
Safety patrol is a group of 5th grade students
that work diligently to help keep Pond Springs a safe place. They work
each day, before and after school, directing traffic and assisting students
into their cars.
Pond Springs
Pioneer Network- Chanel 16
PSPN, or broadcast, is the daily news program that is directed and produced
by the 5th graders at Pond Springs. A typical broadcast begins at 7:46
following the tardy bell. It is run by a different crew each month,
and each 5th grade class has the privilege of participating. The PSPN
crew consists if a director, two news anchors, a teleprompter technician, a
camera technician, a computer technician, a sound/lights technician, and a
video mixer technician. Students from each class at Pond Springs
rotate to say the pledges each day.
Choir
The choir is made up of 4th and 5th
grade students who meet on Thursdays from fall to early
spring. This year we sang for the schools as part of
the December Celebration Sing-A-Long and sang at the
Clairmont Retirement Village in December and February.
