Campus Vision Statement

Gattis Elementary is dedicated to building partnerships that welcome, support, and inform all community members.  Our goal is to create and sustain life-long learners and position the school as an integral part of the community

At Gattis, our mission is to ensure all learners reach their highest potential as determined by state and national standards.  We are committed to providing a nurturing, engaging, and collaborative environment to succeed.

 Goal I              Student Achievement:

Improve Student Performance in Math and Science to 90% meeting passing standards on TAKS 

Campus Goals: (Identify and quantify 1-3 campus targets/objectives)

1.  The following sub-populations will meet or exceed the RPI for the 2007-08 school year.

     African American (81%M)(81%Sci), Hispanic(89%M)(82%Sci), and

     Economically Disadvantaged (84%M)(78%Sci)

2.  Meet or exceed 2008 Commended Target Rates

 

ACTION STEPS: 

1.  Vertical focus teams will complete book studies focused on math and science, and will  

     present their findings for improving instruction to the entire campus.

2.  Each team will implement the use of a standardized format for implementing the use of         

     math and science journals.

3.  Increase the amount of training provided by the ACC science collaborative teachers

     insuring the use of the science activities specifically outlined through  the GEOSCIENCES  

     program.

4.  Teachers in grades 3 through 5 will implement the use of the AIMS core curriculum  

      provided through the ACC Science Collaborative and A+ FCU, Education Grant.

5.  Student progress will be monitored monthly by grade level teams and administrators  

     utilizing the PDSA model in math and science.

Goal II             Decrease student performance gaps by 50%:   

                                 Campus Goal: (Identify and quantify 1-3 campus targets)

     Decrease the the overall gap in the following areas.

Reading   20% to 10%  (LEP)

Math        23% to 12%  (African American)

Writing     6%  to 3%    (African American

Science     27% to 14%  (economically disadvantaged)         

ACTION STEPS: 

1.  Pilot RTI model to better systemetize and monitor our interventions

2.  Refine SST process to more effectively intervene instructionally for students

3.  Collaborate with campus personnel (PSS, Nurse, Counselor, PTA, etc.) to provide

      social and emotional needs of our students and families.

4.  Implement a mentoring system (Gator Buddies) on campus as well as increase the number

      of STAR Mentors, and Watch Dogs to meet to support our students during the school day.

5.  Teachers will utilize Marzano's  6 step process for teaching instructional vocabulary

Goal III           Improve student performance to reach Exemplary status by 2008-2009:

                             

                         Campus Goal: (Identify and quantify 1-3 campus targets)

1.  Increase or maintain exemplary scores for all subpopulations in Reading & Writing.

2.  Meet or exceed Target scores in the area of Math and Science for all subpopulations.

 Action Steps:

1.  Problem Solving Team will focus on the best instructional practices, staff development, and 

     campus climate as issues are presented.

2. Grades 2-5 will create a standardized problem solving notebook for extended practice in  

     math.

3.  Vertical Focus teams will complete book studies to increase level of implementation of 

     writers workshop and share their findings.
