Fern Bluff’s guidance program has been designed to
identify and prevent problems before they occur through bullying
prevention techniques, cultural awareness, conflict resolution,
character education and pro-social skills. Our goal is to instill
appreciation of diversity among people, respond to identified
individual student needs and provide instruction to students and
families about healthy choices and substance abuse prevention.
These services are delivered through classroom guidance, small group
counseling and individual counseling. In addition, the
counselor is the coordinator for other activities such as Red Ribbon
Week, the BITS program and campus testing coordinator, as well as
serving on numerous committees.
Because Fern Bluff is such an ethnically diverse and
multilingual community, cultural awareness is an important component
of the program. The population of students with special needs
includes speech and hearing impaired, emotionally disturbed,
learning disabled, autistic and visually handicapped which creates
the need to teach tolerance of individual differences.
Parent information and important dates can be found
in the Counselor’s Quarterly, published in August, November,
February and May.
